Mrs. George Johnson, Galchutt, Dies at Home on Tuesday
Well Known Woman Succumbs Less Than Year After Son’s Death
Less than a year after the death of her only son, Earl Johnson, the mother, Mrs. George Johnson, Galchutt passed away at her home on Tuesday morning at about 2:30. She had been ill about two weeks. Pneumonia developed Friday from which she was unable to recover.
Ella Olson was born in Dwight on October 7th, forty-six years ago. When eight years of age, she move to Galchutt with her parents, where she made her home the remainder of her lifetime.
Her grade school education was received in the Galchutt school and aa few years later graduated from a teacher’s course from the Mayville State Normal. She was an instructor in a rural school near Galchutt for about three years and later taught in the Galchutt school.
Twenty-five years ago last summer, her marriage to George Johnson of Galchutt took place. To Mr. and Mrs. Johnson was born three children, Miss Lucylie Johnson and Dorothy, and a son, Earl, who passed way February 20, a year ago. During her entire lifetime, Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Bethania church. She had on various occasions, held offices in her church organizations, served as the president of the Ladies Aid and at the time of her death was President of the Sunday School. She was active in the work of her church where she was ever ready to assist in any way possible.
Of the Lutheran faith, Mrs. Johnson lived a good Christian life centering her interest in her church, her family and in the welfare of her community. In her community, she was respected as a woman of high standards and lived an enviable life of doing good
News of Mrs. Johnson’s death came as a distinct shock to the entire community. The evening previous to her death, she was apparently in a satisfactory condition by two physicians and two professional nurses. A few hours later she passed away. Leaving this world for the Great Beyond had been her wish for several days and she was not interested in regaining her former good health.
Surviving her are her husband, two daughters Lucylie and Dorothy, her mother, Mrs. Christ Olson, her sisters, the Misses Clara and Cora Olson of Wahpeton and Mr. Walter Schultz of Riverton, Wyo., and her two brothers, OJ Olson of Wahpeton and Clarence Olson of Hasting, Minn.
Funeral services will be held from the Johnson home Saturday at one o’clock and from the Bethania church at one thirty. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery at four. Rev. V. L. Peterson will officiate.
