Obituary

Mrs. Dan Jones Rites Sunday at Local Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Dan R. Jones, 68, were held Sunday afternoon at two from the First Congregational church of Wahpeton.

The well-known Wahpeton woman suffered a stroke at her home Thursday afternoon. She had only recently returned from a visit in Pennsylvania and had been in the best of spirits.

Death came to her late Thursday evening at the hospital. Her husband, the late Dan R. Jones preceded her in death several years ago. He had been a prominent attorney and legislator and Mrs. Jones was known throughout the legal profession in the state.

Since Mr. Jone’s death she had managed their extensive farm holdings and taken an active part in farm management meetings.

Ethel K. Jones was born Dec. 6 at Wilkes Barre, Penn.; the daughter of Karl and Elizabeth Koerner. She grew up there and attended the public school where her father was principal.

On a visit to Cleveland many years ago, she attended a wedding of a cousin and there she met Dan Jones, the Wahpeton attorney whom she married on June 6, 1910. She came here as a bride and she and her husband purchase a home at 217 8th St. N. where they made their home for many years.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, PEO, past president and honorary member of the Woman’s Literary Club, past president of the Ladies Aid and leader of much Congregational church activity.

Funeral services were conducted by Dr. S. G. Schick, her pastor and friend ever since he came to Wahpeton as pastor of the local church. Vertin’s-Wahpeton were in charge of the service and interment was made beside her husband in Fairview cemetery.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. H. Boardman of Goldsborough, Pa., and Mrs. James Bryslen of Cleveland; and two brothers, Fred Koerner, Cleveland and Karl Koerner, Virginia.

Her husband, parents and a brother preceded her in death. Mr. Jones came here from the Hankinson vicinity where he Jones family have long been prominent. Dr. C. V. Bateman and Mrs. H. Paul sang during the service.

Honorary pallbearers were Judge W. H. Hutchinson, R. T. Barber, Frank Vertin, W. A. Heley, I. E. Lillegard, A. W. Hoppert.Active pallbearers were: Art Oscarson, Campbell, Minn., Max Lauder, Art Lee, Vernon Forbes, M.B. Zimmerman and Eldon Lum.
