The death of John Nicholas Jurgenson, one of the early residents of Wahpeton and for many years a business man of the city, occurred at the family home here last Thursday, Aug 26th. Mr. Jurgenson had been in poor health for some time, but his death came as a distinct shock to his many friends. He had but recently been called back to the city from an extended visit with his son and daughter in the northern part of the state, to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Tams, who died here just three weeks before.
The funeral was held at the house on Sunday, Aug 29th, at 2:30 o’clock, Rev Zeyher conducted the services, which were attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. Relatives of the family who were present were the two children, Ernest Jurgenson of Bisbee, N. D., and family, and Mrs. J. E. Carney and husband of Larimore, besides the following relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Jurgenson: Mrs. O. J. Gutsch of Sheboygan, Wis., Mrs. F. Reuckert of Lake City, Minn., Otto Vogl of Minneapolis, R. G. Winter of Milwaukee. Mr. Jurgenson was born in Germany in 1850, and came to America in 1870, at the age of 20 years. In 1877 he was married to Miss Lina Vogl, at Columbus, Wis., and in 1882 they came to Wahpeton, where they have made their home ever since. When coming here, and for the following fifteen or twenty years, Mr. Jurgenson was engaged in the shoemaking and harness business. Since that time he has served a number of terms as police magistrate of the city of Wahpeton. Mr. Jurgenson was one of the well known figures about the city for a number of years, and his death is the cause of deep sorrow on the part of many friends in the city.
