Vera L. Johnson, 86
Vera L. Johnson, 86, Milnor, N.D., died Friday, June 25, 2004 at the St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, N.D., with the Rev. Jack Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service Monday, June 28 at United Methodist Church, Milnor, with the Rev. Jack Erickson officiating.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be: Albert Roder, John Manikowski, Brett Quam, Gregg Quam, Bradley Woodbury, J.C. Hammond, David Hammond and Everert Schmeichel. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Vera's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild: Michelle Ferraro and Rod Hoover, Michael, Hailey and Vanessa; Renee and Duane Braun, Brandon and Lexi; Betsy and Phil Sustained, Jessica, Stephanie, Myles and Peter; Deanna and Cory Wall, Nicholas, Luke and Jacob; Gregg Quam; Dixie and Brian Daleske, Sophie, Jessica and Otto; JC and Sara Hammond, and Carver; Brett and Renita Quam, and Julia; Kristi and Rob Gappert, and Aiden; and Bradley Woodbury.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Milnor is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Vera Lucille Anderson, daughter of Henning and Hilma (Olson) Anderson, was born March 17, 1918 near Barney, N.D. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in Homestead Township near Barney.
Vera was united in marriage to Floyd Hammond June 5, 1936. The couple lived in Tintah, Minn., where Floyd managed an elevator.
In 1950, Vera and Floyd moved to Barney. Floyd managed the elevator and the couple together ran a gas station and cafe. They moved to Wahpeton in 1966 and managed the Elks Club. Floyd died May 5, 1979. Vera continued to live in Wahpeton until Feb. 10, 1983, when she married Ardell Johnson and moved to Milnor.
In the fall of 2000, Vera entered the St. Francis Home in Breckenridge.
She is survived by her husband, Ardell, Milnor; one son, L. James (Deanna) Hammond, Sandy, Utah; two daughters, Janice (Gerald) Quam, Wydnmere, N.D., and Frances (Roland) Woodbury, Barney; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; one sister, Ramona Schend; and a grandson, Michael Ferraro.
