Obituary
Alfred B. Johnsgard
Alfred B. Johnsgard, 78, Wahpeton, died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral service was this afternoon (Tuesday) at Bethel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Martin Hartmann officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Honorary casket bearers were Morris worner, Harvey Thiele, Al Lindor, Cal Carlson, Albert Skovholt and Cliff Worner. Active casket bearers were Ralph Possehl, Arland Olerud, Merle Hoppert, Harold Barth, Kenneth Morgan and Clark Richards.
He was born July 13, 1902 at Christine, the son of Austin and Sophia (Munson) Johnsgard. He attended school in Christine and at the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton. He worked in his father's general store in Christine for a time. He married Yvonne Morgan June 27, 1926 at rural Walcott. They moved to Wahpeton in 1941 where he worked as a deputy in the register of deeds office until 1943. He began work as a sanitarian for the North Dakota State Health Department, covering the eastern part of North Dakota. He retired in 1971.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway and the Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of the Wahpeton Elks.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Keith, San Jose, Calif.; Paul, Lincoln, Neb.; Larry, San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Ortley, Gordon and Waldo all of Fargo; and Harland, Miles City, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
