Obituary
Nels Johnson Dies Tuesday; Rites at Bethel Lutheran
The funeral for Nels Johnson, 70, of Wahpeton will be at 2 Tuesday in Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Mrs. Vernon Hektner will be the organist. Interment will be in the Garden of the Christus in the spring. Mrs. Johnson died Sunday after being hospitalized three days.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wallace Leiseth, Curtis Donald, Dennis Donley, Lee Richards, Michael Boock and Charles Johnson.
Visitation will be at Vertin’s-Wahpeton West Chapel Monday (today) afternoon and evening with a Prayer Service at 7:30.
Mr. Johnson was born in Kristanstad, Sweden, April 19, 1898, the son of Hokan and Anna Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Sweden and came to Rhode Island in 1917 where he worked in a machine shop. In 1918 he came to Walcott and married Ida Berglund June 2, 1921 at Comstock, Minn. They farmed at Comstock, Breckenridge and Wolverton and he also operated an upholstery shop while farming. He retired and moved to Wahpeton in 1965. His life was the subject of a feature story in the Farmer-Globe in July, 1965. Surviving are wife, 723 5th St. North, Wahpeton; three daughters, Mrs. Ole (Beatrice) Leiseth, Moorhead; Mrs. Allan (Violet) Richards, Moorhead and Mrs. Martin (Lorraine) Boock, Wahpeton; and a son, Norman, Wolverton; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one brother, Verner; two sisters, Betty and Gerd Johnson, all in Sweden.
