Obituary
Melvin Johnson Dies Tuesday; Rites Slated
Funeral services for Melvin Johnson, 70, of Wahpeton, have been set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Mr. Johnson, a former Mooreton resident, died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 4, 1897 at Mooreton, the son of the Marius and Berthine Johnson. He was raised there and was married to Esther Gundervalson Nov. 30, 1929 at Mayville, N. D. They farmed there until retiring and moving to Wahpeton in 1958.
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and the Mooreton Lutheran Church and its organizations.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Gordon of Mooreton, Richard of Seattle, Wash., and Clifford of Great Bend; one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Joyce) DeVries of Mayville; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph of Wahpeton and Julius of Alexandria, Minn.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter and three sisters.
Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and Friday until 11 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Chapel and at the church from 1 until 2 p.m.
