C. J. Kachelhoffer Dies Saturday

Funeral Tuesday for Wahpeton Attorney

C. J. Kachelhoffer, Wahpeton attorney, died at St. Francis hospital Saturday at 12:30 a.m. Funeral services were held in the Vertin Funeral Home at Wahpeton on Tuesday morning and burial was in Fairview cemetery. Rev. Father F. A. Meyer officiated. Mr. Kachelhoffer had been ill for the past three years. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Carlos (Charles) Kachelhoffer was born at Freeport Ill., March 29, 1878 and was married to Mabel Julia Schuler at Wahpeton on January 1, 1912. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs Norman (Grace) Wiggen of Proctor, Minn and Mrs. Clifford (Pauline) Worner of Wahpeton, a son, Charles Gustav died as a boy eight years old. Two brothers John, of Kansas City and Frank of Spearfish, S. Dak., and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Aldrich of Hayworden, Iowa, B. Adams of Pierre S. Dak., and Ms. F. W. Lynch of Luverne, Minn., also survive.

Mr. Kachelhoffer came to Wahpeton after finishing business school at Mankato nearly 40 years ago. He was employed by McCumber, Forbes and Jones, attorneys-at-law as a stenographer. Later he passed the North Dakota bar examination and set up his own private practice which he conducted until forced to retire because of ill health.

He was Richland state attorney for a term, also assistant states attorney. He served as Wahpeton city attorney for several years. He was active in the Democratic party and was a delegate to the Democratic national convention in 1936. He held the office of secretary of the state Democratic committee for a time.
