SGT KENT IS KILLED IN KOREA
21 Year Old Son Of Irvin Kents Dies July 31
Sergeant First Class Duane Kent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin E. Kent of this city and husband of the former Mary Dell of Breckenridge, was killed in action on Korea July 31, according to word received by the family from the War Department Wednesday.
“We are moving-I hope to the rear.” wrote the young Wahpeton man in his last letter to his parents. He had expected to come home under the rotation system late in July. The move was into action instead and he was in the battle reported in the area. His last letter located him near Kimpo Airbase.His death followed by one day his 21st birthday. Previously killed in action was his former co-worker at a local store, Earl Mollerud, and missing in action is another co-worker, Joseph Meyer. He was also a close friend of Bruce Lovdokken of Breckenridge, Company i man killed in action.
Duane Kent was born in Wahpeton July 30, 1931. He attended local schools and was graduated from Wahpeton high school in 1950. He went to Camp Rucker, Alabama with the advance group January 15, 1931. and returned to Wahpeton on furlough in August. He married Miss Mary Dell August 12th at First Congregational church of this city.
The family went to Seattle the following month to bid him farewell when he left for overseas. He was expected to return to Seattle this summer and his wife had been there awaiting his arrival. She returned to Breckenridge this week to be with her brother, Terry Dell, home on furlough from a Texas airbase and was with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Beyrl Dell, when the message from the War Department arrived.
The body will be brought back and memorial funeral services will be held from First Congregational church, of which he was a member.
Surviving are his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Kent, one brother, Robert of Seattle, and two sisters, Mrs. Howard Smith of Richmond, Kansas, and Mrs. Harry Wilson of St. Louis, Mo., who is visiting at home at this time.
