Obituary
Fred Kingdon, 95, Dies; Rites Held Here Today
Fred W. Kingdon, 95, longtime Richland County resident died Friday at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge. Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) in Vertin’s Wahpeton Chapel with Rev. Everett C. H. Owens officiating.
Mr. Kingdon was born at Cullom, Ill. Nov 7, 1879, and was graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana. He had taught school and had been in business in Cullom and married Marie Reinhard July 9, 1924 in Chicago.
The couple moved to near Fairmount in LaMars Township where they had extensive farming interests. They retired into Wahpeton in 1943. He was active in community affairs.
He was initiated into the Masonic Lodge June 20, 1913, was passed Sept 23, 1913 and was raised Nov 7, 1913 in the Saunemin Lodge No. 73 AF & AM in Saunemin, Ill. He also was a member of the Bloomington, Ill., consistery, being the oldest member and the Peoria, Ill., Shrine. He also was chairman of the Richland County Drainage Board until 1949.
His wife died March 31, 1964.
He leaves one son and two daughters, Frederick, Newark, Del; Mrs. Robert (Mathilda) Sybrant, Forsyth, Mont., Mrs. Henry (Lotus) Kerner of Collom and 11 grandchildren.
Interment was in Christus Gardens Fairview Memorial Cemetery.
Organist was Mrs. F. D. Brown. Pallbearers were Clemens Buck, Wilbur O’Meara, Elwood Grimes, August Buck, Arthur W. Luick and William Richardson.
