Obituary

Horace F. Lahren, 53, Bank President, Dies Here Monday

Horace F. Lahren, 64, lifelong Richland County resident and president of the Citizens First National Bank, died suddenly Monday afternoon at his home of a heart condition.

Funeral services were held today (Thursday) from Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev Golf officiating A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Lahren was born at Walcott, Feb 16 1911, to parents, Iver and Ingeborg Lahren. He attended Walcott schools and the State School of Science. While attending Science, he began work for the Citizens First National Bank April 21, 1930. After advancing through various bank offices, he was named president last February.

He married Jessie Siewerdser of Breckenridge, Aug 2, 1936. In Aug. 1943, he entered the U. S. Army serving in Europe during World War II. He was discharged in December 1945.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Besides serving on the church board of deacons, he was a trustee and church treasurer for many years.

Mr. Lahren was member of the Wahpeton Rotary Club, American Legion of Wahpeton, 40 et 8, International Order of Odd Fellows, Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and Wahpeton Elks Lodge. Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Bonnie Jean and one son, Roderick Dale, both at home; two brothers, Harry of Williston and Arnold of Walcott; six sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Ann) Bjerkager, Abercrombie; Mrs. Hilda Sundby, Covina, Calif.; Mrs. E. T. (Agnes) Johnson, Fargo; Mrs. Clark (Irene) Williams, New Rockford; Mrs. Ernest (Edith) Rydell, Fargo and Mrs. Walter (Nina) Carlson, Mooreton.

Three sisters, Gina, Mabel and Mrs. Melford (Clara) Flaa preceded him in death. Mrs. Flaa died Aug. 4.

Serving as pallbearers were William Meyenberg, Dale McMichael, Earl Robinson, Floyd Swenson, Vernon Frank and Donald Holen. Honorary pallbearers were the bank’s board of director, B. P. McCusker, G. W. Haverty, Eldon Lum, Harry Stern, Robert Caspers, Benj. P. Gorder and E. O. Stoudt.

Organist was Mrs. Vernon Hektner and Arnold Bakko was vocalist.

Graveside military services were conducted at Fairview Cemetery by the Wahpeton American Legion Post.
