Obituary

Mildred Larsson, former NDSCS librarian

Mildred Larsson, 94, formerly Wahpeton, N.D., died Sunday, June 6, 1993, at a nursing home in Willmar, Minn.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Hartmann officiating.

There will be visitation Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

She was born May 4, 1899, to Palmer and Christina (Ruhd) Svenby in Fergus Falls. She grew up, attended high school at Fergus Falls. She then attended and graduated from Valley City State College. Her first teaching job was in rural Wyndmere, N.D. She also taught at Devils Lake, Makoti, and Wahpeton, ND. She married Karl Larsson June 4, 1928, in Fergus Falls. The couple lived in Wahpeton where Karl worked for the North Dakota State College of Science from 1924-48 when he died.

Mrs. Larsson became dean of women and director of housing for girls at NDSCS for six years and then assumed the position of librarian at the college until her retirement in 1973 after 25 years of service to NDSCS. She continued to live in Wahpeton and in 1975 moved to Benson, Minn., to be near her family and recently moved to a nursing home in Willmar.

She was a past member and very active in Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, and its auxiliary organizations including the Bethel Lutheran Church Women and Bethel Circle. She was also a former member of the Dorcas Society, the Auxiliary Literary Club and the Breckenridge-Wahpeton Zonta Club. She was also a member of the North Dakota State Library Association.

She is survived by two daughters, Marian (Mrs. Clare) Kappahn, Willmar, Minn.; and Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Rokke, Apple Valley, Minn.; a brother, Clifford Svenby, Wausau, Wis.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Karl, Feb. 17, 1948, and an infant brother.
