Obituary
Virgil E. Lee 52, Dies; Rites Slated Wednesday
The funeral for Virgil 3. Lee, 52 of 511 North Sixth Street, Wahpeton will be at 2 Wednesday in the United Methodist Church in Wahpeton. The Rev. Robert R. Strutz will officiate and interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Organist will be Mrs. Donald Gripentrog and vocalist will be Mrs. Donald Heitmann. Mr. Lee died Sunday morning.
Presentation of the flag will be by the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Nies, Oscar Krause, Donald Fauss, Palmer Marohl, Chester Marguette and Elmer Mundel.
Active pallbearers will be David Tolo, Odin Stutrud, Duane Ballweber, Hilding Johnson, Solon Hill and Walter Oster.
Visitation will be after 3 Tuesday afternoon and continue throughout the evening and Wednesday until 11 a.m. at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home and at the church from 1 until 2 p.m.
Mr. Lee was born Oct. 16, 1916 at Davenport, N.D., the son of Emil and Mabel Lee. He lived at Hannaford and Dwight before coming to Wahpeton in 1938. He graduated from Sutton (N.D.) High school and attended an upholstery school in Bellevue Wash. He was employed for a time by Lillegard’s and served overseas in the Army from 1941 to 1945.
He married Gladys Kirkeby Aug. 30, 1943 at Wahpeton. They lived for a time at Kirkland, Wash., and returned to Wahpeton in 1950 where he was employed by several automobile dealers in this area. In 1962, he accepted a position at the North Dakota State School of Science as an instructor of upholstery in the Automotive Body Repair Department.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, choir and American Legion and served on the finance committee of the church. He was Youth Director of the Youth Fellowship of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Roger, who attends Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa, and Thomas of Wahpeton; three brothers, Kermit and Kenneth of Wahpeton and Willard of Portland, N.D.
