Obituary
Harry D. Lord, Longtime Breck Rail Worker, Dies
Harry D. Lord 78, former Wahpeton and Breckenridge resident, died Monday at Battle Lake, Minn.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral home, Breckenridge. Rev. Frank T. Hirons will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Visitation at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home will be Thursday from 9 a.m. throughout the day and evening and Friday morning.
Mason Lodge will hold graveside rites. He was a member of Wahpeton Masonic Lodge No. 22.
Mr. Lord was born at Sauk Centre, Minn., April 19, 1887, the son of Edward and Olive Lord. When he was 16 years old, he came with his parents to Breckenridge. As a young man he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad and also helped his parents operate a dairy farm south of Breckenridge. Starting as a call boy in 1903, he later became brakeman, conductor and was yard master at the time of his retirement in 1949.
He was married to Clara Wegner at Wahpeton, Aug. 10, 1910, and they lived in Breckenridge until 1919 when they came to Wahpeton. They continued to live here until 1949 and then moved to Battle Lake, Minn.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ione) Nelson, Clitherall, Minn., Mrs. Harvey (Norene) Couch of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Willys of Bankok, Thailand and Harry, Jr., of Tuscon, Ariz.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara and one brother, Wynn Lord.
