Funeral Services for Charles G. Luick, aged 75, who died Saturday morning at the home of his son-in-law, George Zentgraf following a long illness at home and at the Wahpeton hospital, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Congregational Church of which he was a member.

Charles G. Luick was born at Belmond, Iowa, July 17, 1864. As a lad 11 years old he went to California with his mother and brothers and lived there for twelve years before returning to Iowa. He was married to Bertha Gunderson at Clarion, Ia. In 1896 and they made their home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at which point he was employed by the Great Western Railway.

He then farmed for three years in Iowa and after that came to North Dakota. He arrived in Richland County in March 1903 and he and his family made their home in LeMars Township until 1908 when they moved to the Purcell and Divet farm southwest of Wahpeton in Center township where he operated the large farm until 1913 then moving to Wahpeton. That fall he bought the residence on Seventh Street North which the family still owns. He bought a butcher shop when he moved to town and operated this business for several years.

He then was Chief of Police under Mayor Arthur Connolly after which he worked at the Science School. With the exception of two years spent in the employ of the Indian School, he has been with the Science School since until poor health made it impossible to continue working and he resigned in August last year, after 20 years employment at the local institution.

Mr. Luick was a member of the Congregational church and had held office in the church organization as deacon. He was a member of the Wahpeton Odd Fellows Lodge, of which he was a member for more than twenty-five years. Surviving are his wife and three children: Homer Luick of Minneapolis, Mrs. George Zentgraf and Mrs. Lawrence P. LeDuc, of this city and six grandsons. Also surviving is one brother, Louis Luick, of Belmond, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be: E. F. Riley, R. L. Hawes, H.A. Field, Steve Krzyzaniak, Oscar Dahlgren and William Hunter.

The body will lie in state at the Vertin chapel in Wahpeton until 11 Tuesday morning and will lie in state at the Congregational church 11 to 2 p.m. The casket will not be opened following services. Members of the Odd Fellows lodge will attend the body at the church until the time of the funeral.
