Obituary

Liberda dies Tuesday

Herman A. Liberda, 66, Wahpeton, former dean of men and director of student services at North Dakota State School of Science, died Tuesday, July 3, at his home. He had just retired from his position as director of student services.

He has resided in Wahpeton since 1961 when he and his family moved here and he became dean of men.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, Elks and the American Legion. He also had served as commander of Legion Clubs at Medina and New Salem, N.D., when he resided in those communities.

The funeral will be at 10:30 Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, Rev. David Eggebraten officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening (Thursday) with a prayer service at 7 at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. There will also be visitation at the church for the hour prior to the service.

Herman A. Liberda was born June 27, 1918 at Minno, S.D., to Theodore and Louise (Ott) Liberda. He moved with his family as a child to Woodworth, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1939. He graduated from Valley City State College in 1944. He married Joy Kissinger June 18, 1944 at Medina, N.D. He served in the Navy V-Program. He taught school and coached football at Glendive, Mont., and Linton, N.D. He received his master's degree from the University of North Dakota and later served as superintendent of schools at Medina and New Salem, N.D.

Survivors include his wife, two sons and a daughter, James, Kansas City, Mo.; Steven, St. Paul; Bonnie Liberda, St. Paul, three brothers and a sister, Arthur, Sylmar, Calif.; Gust, Crookston, Minn.; Richard, Jamestown; Mrs. Agnes Koenig, Woodworth, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Casket bearers will be John V. Dietz, Neil Johnson, Pat Miller, Myron Koppang, Don Royer, Charles Hanson and Dr. Dennis Bertsch.
