Harry MacLaughlin

Services for Harry MacLaughlin, 81, of Battle Lake, Minn., and formerly a Wahpeton businessman, will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Vertin's Wahpeton East Chapel. Rev. J. Edward Kruger will officiate.

Mr. MacLaughlin died Tuesday in Wahpeotn Rehabilitation Center. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be today (Wednesday) in the afternoon and evening, and Thursday until the funeral service.

Mr. MacLaughlin was born May 28, 1895, in Willmar, Minn., to Charles E., Sr., and Mary Jane (Hunter) MacLaughlin.

The family lived in Willmar and in Grand Forks while he grew up.

He served in France with the U.S. Army during WWI.

Mr. MacLaughlin married Grace Swank, 1921 in Minneapolis. They came to Wahpeton in 1923 and started the MacLaughlin grocery business, which he ran for 30 years.

His first wife died in 1928, and he remarried to Gertrude Steenerson Nov. 12, 1933.

Mr. MacLaughlin sold the grocery business in 1953, and then served six years as Richland County veterans services officer.

He and his wife moved to Blanche Lake, Minn., in 1960.

He was a member of the Wahpeton American Legion, 40 et 8.

Surviving are his wife; his stepmother, Mrs. C.E. (May) MacLaughlin of Pasadena, Calif.; two sons, Charles D. MacLaughlin of Fargo, and Harry J. MacLaughlin, Jr., of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; three brothers, James Duarte of California, Dr. Ernest MacLaughlin of Los Angeles; and Charles MacLaughlin of Honolulu; and a sister, Mrs. R.A. (Ruth) Ferguson of Arcadia, Calif.

Casket bearers will be members of the Wahpeton American Legion.
