Funeral Service Planned Friday For George Manikowske
Funeral services for George M. Manikowske, brother of Wallace Manikowske of Mooreton, who died last Thursday at his home in Manhattan Beach, Calif., following a heart attack, will be held Friday afternoon from the Schmitt & Olson Chapel, with Rev. R. B. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetary; where the parents of Mrs. Manikowske, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Purdon, lie.
George Manikowske was an inventor and a pioneer in the wind electric field. His success was due to his revolutionary design of a low speed generator built for direct driven wind electric work. He produced the first plant of that kind in 1911 and in 1913 he and his younger brother were the authors of the first government bulletin published on wind driven power and light devices.
A graduate of the State School of Science, Mr. Manikowske did postgraduate work at the University of Minnesota. He founded the Aerodyne Wind Electric Co., in Minneapolis to manufacture plants, selling to an Iowa company in 1935 and joining the engineering staff of the new company.
He leaves his wife, the former, Ethel Purdon and three daughters and a son. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Hunter, will come to Wahpeton with her mother for the last rites. They are expected to arrive this Thursday evening.
