Frank Mashek Funeral Rites Held Monday

Masonic Rites Will Be Conducted From Methodist Church

Masonic funeral rites were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon from the Methodist church for Frank W. Mashek, 74, who died Saturday. Rev C. H. Meier officiated with interment in Fairview cemetery.

Mr. Mashek was born Dec 28, 1973 at Decorah, Iowa. He attended school at Spillville, Iowa, and Valdera Business College, Decorah, Iowa. Married to Edith May Bernatz, Sept 14, 1898, at Spillville Iowa, he came to North Dakota in about 1896 to work in the first store in Mantador, then went to Grafton for a few months and then came to Lidgerwood, where he resided continuously until 1935, except for a short residence in Jamestown in 1902. He resided in Grand Forks until 1945, and the last two years resided in Wahpeton.

He entered the banking business in 1908 with the Farmers State Bank, later the Farmers National Bank at Lidgerwood, where he acted as cashier until 1926. He was postmaster from 1929 to 1933 under the Hoover administration. During his residence at Grand Forks he was associated with the state mill and elevator.

He was an honorary member for over thirty-five years of the Lidgerwood fire department an honorary life member of the Elks lodge, Fergus Falls, an honorary life member of the Blue Lodge of Lidgerwood and a member of the Royal Arch chapter of Lidgerwood, also an honorary member of the ZCBJ lodge at Lidgerwood. He was prominent in Republican party politics all his life.

Survivors are his wife Edith May Mashek; a daughter, Mildred, of Wahpeton; a son, Walter H. Mashek of Sioux Falls, S. D.; granddaughter, Maureen Mashek; grandson, John Mashek; six sisters and one brother.
