Obituary
W. G. Matheson
BRECKENRIDGE - William G. Matheson, 79, of Breckenridge died Thursday in St. Francis Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 Monday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with the Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Flag presentation will be by the Breckenridge American Legion Post.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge and at the church prior to services.
Mr. Matheson was born March 28, 1893, at Fairmount, N.D., the son of John and Julia (Lambert) Matheson. The family moved to Breckenridge where he was educated. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He served in World War I and married Rosa Heine July 24, 1920, in Breckenridge. Mr. Matheson operated his own concrete business for a number of years. During World War II, he worked on construction projects in Wisconsin, Michigan, Canada and Alaska. He was later employed by the Breckenridge Public Utilities Commission until his retirement in 1959. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the board of trustees for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and Last Man's Club.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Kosek and Mrs. Alfred (Darline) Leland, both of Wahpeton, Mrs. Lynal (Baris) Oscarson of Wadsworth, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Hazel Larson of Bisbee, N.D., Mrs. Paul (Josephine) Van Buren of Fergus Falls, Mrs. O. K. (Loretta) Olson of Wahpeton, Charles of Brainerd, Clyde of Wahpeton, Alfred of Wolverton and Shirley of Breckenridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
