Obituary
Service Conducted Here Monday for John Mathiesen
Funeral service was conducted here Monday afternoon for John M. Mathiesen, who came to Richland county over 60 years ago and lived here until 1942 when he moved to Devils Lake.
Rites were from the Schmitt-Poulton Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Mehok officiating.
Interment was made at Fairview Cemetery here.
Pallbearers were Reuben Myhra, C. M. Comstock, Gordon Paape, Clyde Hauskens, Wallace Olson and Al Johnson.
Mr. Mathiesen died Thursday evening in the Odd Fellows Home at Devils Lake. He was 75 years old.
Born in Norway June 21, 1879, he came to the United States when 13 years old to the Galchutt vicinity where he attended schools and grew to manhood on a farm. He married Olina Olsen on April, 1915 at Dwight and the couple farmed near Galchutt until 1921 when he became manager of the Richland County Farm here which he held until retiring in 1936.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Corrine) Peterka of Wahpeton. And two sisters, Mrs. Anna Bergan and Miss Augusta Olsen. His wife preceded him in death.
