Mrs. J. Mathieson Dies Suddenly On Sunday Evening
Funeral Services for Well Known Local Woman Held Thursday Afternoon from Bethel Church
Death came suddenly to Mrs. John Mathieson, well known Wahpeton woman and matron at the County Farm the past fourteen years, Monday evening at her home. She was stricken with a heart attack as she went about her evening duties and medical help was summoned. As her condition became apparent her husband made a hasty trip after their daughter, who was calling on friends and for her sister, Miss Mae Olson. Before their return, however, she had passed on.
Funeral services were held this, Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from Bethel Lutheran church and burial was in Fairview cemetery.
Rev. Gisvold, pastor of the church, officiated at the service and music was furnished by the church choir. Pallbearers were Donald Lum, George Fischer, Martin Hatlie, Oscar Olson, C.M. Comstock and R.L. Hawes.
Olena M. Olson, oldest child of Magnus Olson and the late Mrs. Olson, was born Feb 28, 1876 at Ethel, Missouri. In March 1881 she accompanied her parents in a covered wagon to Richland County where they settled in the Dwight vicinity and built up the farm now owned by Andrew M. Olson. She received he education in the Dwight rural schools and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Bethany church, near Galchutt.
Twenty-two years ago she was married to John Mathieson, the ceremony was performed by the late Reverend Dahl. To this union was born one child, Corinne. Surviving are her husband, daughter, Corinne; her father Magnus Olson, sister, Miss Mae Olson, and two brothers, Peter M. Olson of Battle View, N.D., and Andrew M. Olson of Dwight vicinity.
Mrs. Mathieson was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church and Clover Rebekah lodge. She was active in church work and her loss will be felt in the church organization.
