Funeral Service Held Here Monday For Mrs. Matt

Mrs. August “Elizabeth” Matt, lifelong resident at Richland county, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Francis hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Schmitt an Olson Funeral Chapel and the Immanuel Lutheran church here with Rev. Henry Fry officiating. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery with six nephews acting as pallbearers.

Elizabeth Mohs was born on Jan. 9, 1876 at Great Bend, the daughter of pioneer Great Bend settlers. She attended school and grew to young womanhood in that community before marrying August Matt in 1899.

After their marriage, the couple farmed west of Wahpeton. Mr. Matt died in November 1939 but she continued to operate the farm until 1944 when she retired and moved to Wahpeton. She had lived for several years at St. Mary’s here but 10 days ago became seriously ill and was taken to St. Francis hospital.

She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wahpeton and the Ladies Aid.

Surviving are two sons, Ludwig of Breckenridge and Robert of rural Wahpeton; two sisters, Mrs. Kark Dahlke of Corinth, N.D. and Mrs. Gustav Schroeder of Fergus Falls, a brother, Robert Mohs of rural Wahpeton, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
