Obituary

Ernest B. Mertz-1910 Ernest Bradnaer Mertz, Born at Obebolt, Iowa, 27, 1882, Died at Colorado Springs, Colo., Octoer 3, 1910

On Monday afternoon the sad news was received that Ernest B. Mertz had breathed his last that morning at Colorado Springs, Colo., which place he had just reached and where he had gone in the hope of regaining his breath.

In company with his devoted wife, who has been his constant attendant during the last three months in his illness, he left Stanley a week ago yesterday for Colorado Springs, and although he was in a serious and very weakened condition, it was hoped that the change of climate might be beneficial and that he would regain his health, but the dread disease from which he suffered had progressed too far and he was mercifully released from his suffering.

Ernest Bradner Mertz was born in Iowa on August 22, 1882, and at the time of his death was a month and a few days past 28 years of age. He was married in 1906 to Miss Ethel Kramer of Wahpeton, N. D., who, with two children, Bradner aged 3 years and Jenn aged 8 months, survive him. He located in Stanley a little over three years ago, establishing himself in the drug business, and which business he was engaged in at the time of his death.

Ernest Mertz was a young man of sterling worth, a good citizen and believed by a host of friends who will ever cherish his memory.

Most of the boyhood days of Ernest were spent in Wahpeton. He attended the Public and High School and began his career as a pharmacist and druggist here.

The funeral took place at Wahpeton on Friday and was in charge of the Masonic lodge of Wahpeton, he having been a member of the fraternity, belonging to Joppa lodge of Stanley. The funeral was preached by Rev. Gallagher in the Congregational church. The body went to its final resting place in Fairview cemetery.
