Obituary

Joseph Meyer, 68, Wahpeton, Dies Saturday

Joseph K. Meyer, 68, Wahpeton, died Saturday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday in St. John’s Catholic church in Wahpeton.

Father George Mehok will be the celebrant at the Requiem Mass and interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Chapel at 8 p.m.

Mr. Meyer was born at Platte, S.D., May 2, 1893, and moved as a child to Galena, Ill. He lived at Galena until he was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War I when he served in France.

Following his return from the Army, he worked in Civil Service in South Dakota and in 1924 began teaching agriculture at the Red Lake, Minn., Indian School. He was married to Clara Holm at Red Lake, Oct. 21, 1925.

They moved to Cass Lake, Minn., in 1932 and then moved to Wahpeton in 1932. Mr. Meyer sold magazine and Farmer-Globe subscriptions and during 1960 worked on the Wahpeton city directory.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters Mrs. Gene (Emma) Peters Newberry Park, Calif.; Mrs. Virgil (Alice) Pausch, Hankinson; and Mrs. Hugh (Rose) Moore, Doran; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son who was killed in the Korean conflict in 1950 and one daughter in infancy.

Serving as pallbearers will be Irvin Leinen, Ray Leinen, Cliff Worner, John Martin, Robert Oliver and Joseph Canham.
