Funeral Service For Mrs. P. Meyer To Be On Tuesday
Last rites for Prominent Wahpeton Woman From Immanuel Church
Had Been In Ill Health For Past Two Years
Husband and Three Children Survive; All Are Here For Service
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Paul Meyer, who passed away at two Saturday morning. Mrs. Meyer had been ill for the past two years with diabetes, complicated by heart illness. Services will be at 2:30 from the home and from Immanuel Lutheran church at 3 p.m.
Barbara Baumgarten was born February 19, 1864 at Mahonoy City, Penn., came in the 70’s with her parents to Cawker City Kan., and a little later to Oberlin, Kan. It was here that she met Paul Meyer, who was employed in clerical work at that city. They were married February 9, 1886, at Herndon, Kan., and the couple operated a farm for a short time.
In January, 1891, they moved to Appleton, Minn., where Mr. Meyer engaged in business and later to Odessa, Minn., and to Wahpeton March 1, 1894. Mr. Meyer being on the road part of the time before coming to Wahpeton. Here he bought into the hand laundry business with C. Hoepfner. In 1895, E. F. Meyer, brother of Paul Meyer bought out Mr. Hoepfner’s interest and continued in business until August, 1898, when E F. Meyer sold out to Paul Meyer. E. F. Meyer is in the laundry business at St Cloud. At the time he bought out his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meyer acquired the business building where the laundry is now located and have had it ever since that time.
Mrs. Meyer assisted her husband with the laundry business in the office being forced to retire in 1930. She was active in the Wahpeton hospital. Mr. Meyer being president of the organization. She was active in missionary and church work and a prominent worker in the social and charitable work of the city.
Mrs. Meyer is survived by her husband and three children: Rev. Paul E. Meyer of Glenview, Ill., Alvin H. of Wahpeton, and Mrs. A. J. Mueller of West Hollywood, Cal. Three children, Arthur, Walter and Augusta, preceded their mother in death. There are seven grand children and one great grandchild who survive. Rev. and Mrs. Meyer and family are here for the funeral. Mrs. Mueller is here having assisted with the care of her mother during her illness. Mrs. Anna Heilshorn, a sister, is here from Indianapolis, Ind. Brother and sisters who survive are Charles Baumgarten, Mrs. Mary Heitmann, Mrs. Katie Cornell, all of Oberlin, Kansas, Mrs. Ann
Heilshorn of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Celia Krump, Jennings, Kan.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of Immanuel church here and of the ladies Aid and other organizations of the church. She formerly was a member of the WRC.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. R. J. Becker and interment will be in Fairview cemetery here. Pallbearers will be Ernest Schoeneck, Louis Matz, Herman Boetther, Henry Buchholz, Waldemar Fenske, Ernest Hage.
