12 Year Old Boy Dies As Result of Accident

Floyd, twelve-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Mile, the former employed at the Wahpeton laundry, passed away Saturday evening at six o’clock from the effects of a blow from a baseball bat. The tragic accident occurred during a baseball game. The bat struck the boy on the forehead. Floyd Miller was born March 30 1920 at Ottumwa, Iowa.

Together with a group of his playmates, Floyd was in the midst of an exciting baseball game. The score was close and interest was high. A left handed batter took his place at the plate while Floyd stood nearby urging him to smash the ball off the lot. The bat swung. It struck the excited boy between the eyes.

The little friend was terror stricken. They rushed their playmate to the doctor’s office. Floyd had a deep cut and ugly laceration on his forehead. He passed away at six o’clock shortly after the accident occurred. Floyd was an active member of the Boy Scout troop number 51 of which Rev. A. R. Jones is scoutmaster. He was in the sixth grade of the local schools.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Miller and two brothers, Lewis Frederick and LeRoy; and two sisters, Arthelene Marie and Phercillea Maxine. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church at 2:30 with Rev. A. R. Jones, Floyd’s scoutmaster conducting the services. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery. The Boy Scout troop of which was a member, will attend the services in a body.
