Obituary

Lillian Morden Passes Away Here

Enlisted As Army Nurse During World War

Miss Lillian Morden died at 8:15 p.m. Monday. She was a volunteer war nurse at Des Moines during the World war and received an honorable discharge following her services. Born April 26, 1891, at Cavalier, she came to Wahpeton in 1898 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Morden, and other members of the family.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. E. E. Bassett, and her brother, Wallace Morden, both of Wahpeton. A nephew, Raymond Bassett lives at New Ulm, Minn., and a niece, Ariel, teaches at Hibbing, Minn.

Miss Morden enlisted as a student nurse at the time of the World war and served as a nurse at the Des Moines hospital. At the close of the war, and following her discharge from the army, she was employed in the hospital at Hibbing as a nurse and later was employed as a teacher in the domestic science department at the Hibbing schools.

She has been an invalid for the past 12 years. Much of the time she had been confined to a hospital bed. But during all that time she displayed an unfailing cheerfulness that was the joy of other patients in the hospital as well as the nurses and doctors who attended her.

The body has been cremated and memorial services are planned in the spring, in accordance with Miss Morden’s wishes. Miss Morden was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Hibbing, the Order of Eastern Star at Hibbing and the White Shrine of Hibbing.
