Obituary
Gary L. Manning, 49, Wahpeton, died Monday, May 26, 1986, at his home after a lengthy illness. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Wahpeton, with Professor Arnold Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be this afternoon and evening (Wednesday) and Thursday until 9:30 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. There will also be visitation at the church prior to the service. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel.
Gary Lloyd Manning was born Oct. 16, 1936, at Breckenridge to Lyle and Helen (Sing) Manning. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1956. In 1957 he joined the Army.
He married Janice R. Muehler April 2, 1960. He joined the Wahpeton Police Force in April 1960 and was employed there for 13½ years. He then worked for D & E Machining, Wahpeton, for eight years and retired because of ill health.
Because of the nature of his illness (a brain tumor), experimental drugs and treatments were performed at Mayo Clinic which helped prolong his life. Because of these experiments some of the drugs and treatments are now available to the public.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ (Congregational); and served on the Deaconate for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Janice, two sons, David and Dennis, Wahpeton; mother, Helen Manning, Wahpeton; two brothers, Rawley, New Hope, Minn.; and Roger, Eagan, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne, who died in 1981, his father and a brother Wayne.
Pallbearers will be David Peterson, Steve Dale, Michael Olson, Glenn Bladow, and Ronald and Kenneth Buckhouse.
Presentation of the American flag will be by the Wahpeton American Legion.
