Walter McIlwain

The funeral for Walter McIlwain, 63, of 212 North Sixth Street, Wahpeton, will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Mr. McIlwain died Friday afternoon at St. Luke's Hospital Fargo.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Monday and continuing through the evening at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home (West Chapel) with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

There will be a presentation of the American Flag by the Wahpeton American Legion.

Walter McIlwain was born May 17, 1912 at Hankinson to David and Fredericka (Witt) McIlwain. He grew up there and attended local schools In 1931 he moved with his parents to Wahpeton where he worked for Gilles and Company.

He married Blanche Larson Aug. 11, 1939 at Alexandria, Minn. IN 1941 he joined Peschel and Co. as a salesman, working there until 1974 when he retired because of ill health.

He served in the army in France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Wahpeton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Britton, S.D.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, June McIlwain of Iliamna, Alaska; and a son, David of Hankinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
