Mathilda Mittag

Funeral services for Mrs., C.F. (Mathilda) Mittag, 77, of Wahpeton will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Edward J. Rutter officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Mittag died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital.

Organist will be Mrs. Paul Mumm and special music will be provided by the Immanuel Ladies' Choir.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and until 11 a.m. Saturday at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home chapel. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Mathilda Budack was born June 29, 1897 at Claire City, S.D. to Frank and Martha (Klingbell) Bedack. As a child, she moved with her parents to Hankinson where she grew up and attended local schools.

She married Carl F. Mittag Feb. 11, 1920 at Wahpeton. The couple farmed in Brandenburg Township near Great Bend for three years and in Center Township for 26 years before moving to Wahpeton. He died Oct. 29, 1963 and she continued to live in Wahpeton, spending winters in Texas.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, her church circle, a charter member of Sunny Circle Homemakers Club, and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as its president.

Survivors include two sons, Earl of Wahpeton and Roy of Ottertail, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Olive (Joyce) Martinson of Pinetop, Ariz. and Mrs. Carol Vitiello of San Antonio, Tex.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.

Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
