Detlaf Mumm

Services for Detlaff Mumm, 62, of rural Wahpeton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton with Rev. E.J. Rutter and Rev. E. Bartels officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mumm died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and Thursday until 11 a.m.at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home chapel. There will be a prayer service at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Detlaf Walter Mumm was born Aug. 29, 1914 on a farm south of Lidgerwood to Peter and Anna (Boetcher) Mumm. He attended local schools and was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

He married Palma Irene Thorson Dec. 30, 1938 at Lidgerwood. In May, 1940, the couple moved to a farm southwest of Wahpeton where they have since lived.

He was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as elder and trustee. He was also active in the Richland County Farm Bureau, serving as president two years and director for six years. He won the soil conservation award in 1957 and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Dale and Paul, both of Wahpeton; three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Diane) Gehler of Great Bend, N.D., Mrs. Arvid (Paulette) Ness of Lake Park, Minn., and Linda Palma Mumm at home; 12 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Howard (Marie) Baber and Mrs. Bertha Strandberg, both of Mesa, Ariz., Mrs. Alvin (Anna) Parsley of Chico, Calif., and Mrs. Caecilie Hopkinson of Edina, Minn.; and three brothers, George and Leonard of Lidgerwood and Hans of Fair View, Canada.

Location

The Garden of the Christus is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
