Obituary

Robert B. Nelson-1920

Robert B. Nelson, son of State Senator and Mrs. E. M. Nelson, Fairmount, passed away at Mohall this state, on Friday after suffering an attack of flu-pneumonia and complications. He was born in Summit Township Feb. 27, 1893, being nearly twenty seven years of age at the time of his death, and spent practically all of his life with his parents until his enlistment in the navy in February 1918, where he served in the submarine service for about fifteen months, receiving his honorable discharge on May 23, 1919. He was known as a young man of industry and character, and has a host of friends in the county. He gave of himself to the service without sting and suffered many hardships the effects of which have been evident since his discharge.

Funeral services were held at the Nelson home near Fairmount Monday morning, conducted by Rev. H. E. Stillwell of Wahpeton. The home was packed with sympathizing neighbors and friends who came to pay their last respects to the departed. Music was provided by a quartette from Fairmount under direction of Verne Hoffman. The funeral procession passed through Wahpeton about noon, where it was joined by a number of returned soldiers and sailors from this city, who accompanied the remains to the Fairview cemetery where interment took place. Wallace Morden sounded “Taps” over the final resting place of another fallen comrade.

Deceased is survived by his parents, six brothers and three sisters all of whom were in attendance at the funeral.
