Obituary
DAUGHTER OF SENATOR NELSON BURIED HERE Died at Graceville, Minn.; Funeral Services Held at Fairmount Baptist Church (Contributed) Death in any form always brings the community in which it happens a shock and the longer we live the swifter appears the flight of time. Other wings may weary and rest, but the wings of time with their calm and steady beat, pause not nor rest until life is cutoff like a weaver’s thread. Time has carried another daughter friend and neighbor beyond the gate of the grave.
Miss Amy Florence Nelson, daughter of Senator and Mrs. E. M. Nelson was born on the home farm in the vicinity of Fairmount, September 1890 and died at the hospital in Graceville, Minnesota, November 13th, 1923 of pernicious anemia being 33 years, 1 month, and 26 days old at the time of her death. In February she contracted the influenza which left her in a very weakened state of health from which she never recovered. For a time hope was held out and her parents deemed it wise to remove her to the above mentioned hospital for medical treatment. She remained there for seven weeks during the month of June and July when she returned home seemingly somewhat improved. But two weeks ago it became necessary for for her to return to the hospital for medical treatment.
She was born and raised in the vicinity of Fairmount, where she spent her whole life except fourteen months with her brother in the state of Oregon. She graduated from the State Science school of Wahpeton in June 1911. She was also a member of the Fairmount Auxiliary of the Loyal Legion.
Amy Florence Nelson had, by her conduct and kindness won the love and respect of her companions and friends and the ties of friendship that naturally formed from association together had become very strong and makes the parting a hard one.
She early learned of our Savior’s love for children yielded her hart to Him and was buried with her Lord in baptism by Re. W. T. Williams and identified herself with the Baptist church of Fairmount, remaining a faithful and consistent member until the time of her death.
Such personality will be missed not only in the home where she was idolized but the social circle and in the church.
In the flower of her womanhood and infatuated with life she was summoned to a better world.
She bowed her head with the lovely flowers of earth in answer to the reaper’s call and sank to rest lamented by a host of friends whose lives had been made brighter by her wealth of human kindness and the sunshine of her smile.
Death seeks a shining mark – some bright particular star and as we are apt to select the most beautiful from among the flowers of earth treasuring them for their beauty and fragrance, so does He that doeth all things well often choose from among us the loveliest and sweetest and the best that he may treasure them among his jewels in that beautiful home beyond the skies where there is no parting and all is joy and peace.
We look forward with ardent hope to that time when we shall be reunited as one family and there shall be no more farewells, no more tears.
She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted father and mother, two sisters, six brothers and a host of friends.
May the sunshine of hope in an everlasting eternity, dispel the gloom surrounding at this time those who mourn their loss. I leave the world without a tear, Save for the friends I held so dear, To heal their sorrows, Lord descend And prove to them a faithful friend.
The many beautiful flowers which surrounded the bier of the deceased testified to some extent the friendship and love borne her by her many friends.
The funeral service was held in the Fairmount Baptist church Friday morning November 16th conducted by Dr. Charles C. Williams, pastor of the church and the remains taken to Wahpeton for interment in the family lot.
