Shirley Neppl, 54, Moorhead, Minn.
Aug. 27, 1946 - Jan. 17, 2001
Shirley Neppl, 54, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, Minn., with Fr. Mike Foltz officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton, N.D.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church in Moorhead on Tuesday.
Shirley Jean Johnson was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Breckenridge, Minn., the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Matt) Johnson. She grew up on a farm near Breckenridge and attended Breckenridge schools, graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1964. She then furthered her education at North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, N.D. On Nov. 11, 1966, she was united in marriage to Terry Neppl at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge. They lived in Breckenridge, and Shirley worked at Lillegard's from 1965 to 1970. In 1973, they moved to Moorhead, where they raised their four children and Shirley did day care in her home. She became a licensed Day Care Provider in the early 1980s.
Shirley loved to sing and sang karaoke. She also loved to dance. She and Terry enjoyed arts and crafts and enjoyed going to craft shows in the Fargo and Moorhead area. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead and the Minnesota Day Care Provider Association. Shirley's real love was her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Neppl, Moorhead; children, Troy Allen Neppl (Tammy Wilkie), Moorhead, Kristin Marie Neppl (and her fiancé Chris Middleton), St. Paul, Minn., Adam Paul Neppl (and his fiancée Linda Larson), West Fargo, N.D., Amy Jo Neppl (and her fiancé David Olson), Bismarck, N.D., seven grandchildren; her father, Alfred Johnson, rural Breckenridge; brothers and sisters, Gerald (Ruth) Johnson, Breckenridge, Leola (Fred) Eisner, Papillion, Neb., Laurel (Joe) Colbert, Barnesville, Minn., Arlyn (Christy) Johnson, Columbia, S.D., several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many day care children who called her "mom".
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Johnson; and her grandparents, Ludwig and Ella Matt, and Franklin and Minnie Johnson.
