Obituary
Harold Ness Rites Held Here Monday
Funeral services for Harold Ness, 56 year old farmer northwest of Wahpeton who died early Saturday morning at St. Luke’s hospital in Fargo, were held this afternoon from Bethel Lutheran church in this city. Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiated. Military honors were accorded by the local Legion post of which he had been a member twenty years.
Death followed an eight month illness. Last spring his neighbors seeded his half section farm, this fall they harvested the crop and recently they plowed the land.
Harold Heitman Ness was born in Dwight township, May 18, 1897, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christ Ness. He grew to manhood there, attending local schools and the State School of Science. He served in World War I being discharged at Camp Lewis, Wash.
He spent two years in Canada after the war but returned to Dwight township to make his permanent home. He married Alma Grinager in Fargo, June 12 1941. There are no children. There are ten sisters and brothers; with the exception of Rudolph, Mrs. Koontza and Mrs. Oliver, all were with him the last day of his illness.
The sisters and brothers are: Sigurd of Bremerton, Wash., Conrad of Toutle, Wash., and Rudolph of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. Marie McKay and Mrs. Louise Sanders, both Shelton, Wash.; Mrs. Emil Haas, Turtle Lake, Mrs. Walter Schmitt, Maple Plain, Minn., Mrs. Edith Oliver, Banning, Calif.; Mrs. Constance Koontz, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Hilda Thompson, Longview, Wash. A brother, John, preceded him in death.
Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were J. J. Babbitt, Verne Hammond, Otis Tradewell, Theo. Erickson, Edwin S. Larson and George Richels. Vertin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
