Funeral for Leonard Neels Here Friday
Funeral services for Leonard Neels 47, well know local masseur, who died Monday evening will be held Friday afternoon at Bethel Lutheran church with Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiating. He died at St. Francis hospital from a sudden heart attack; he had suffered a heart attack five years ago, but his death came unexpectedly.
Leonard Neels was born in Iowa. He grew to manhood there and later moved to Elbow Lake with his father, John Neels, who passed away a year ago. Later he moved to Fergus Falls and after two years there came to Wahpeton where he has resided 12 years. He was an only child. He enlisted in the Marine Corps April 10, 1944, and was discharged March 12, 1948. He was in Okinawa and the Waykyu Islands.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters residing in Iowa and by four grandchildren.
He was a member of Bethel church, the VFW, and American Legion, director of Fairview Cemetery association, president of the North Dakota Board of Masseurs and Masseuses. He was a member of Wahpeton Masonic Lodge and U.C.T.
Pallbearers will be Walter Holthusen, Norman Shoberg, Les Knutson, Gerhard Ehlert, Trig Torkelson, Clifron Soliah, and Selmer Syverson. Graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Wahpeton Masonic lodge.
Vertin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
