Obituary
Services for Norman Nelson, 66 Dwight, Held
Funeral services for Norman B. Nelson, 66, of Dwight, were held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in Vertin’s-Wahpeton Chapel, Forde officiating.
Mr. Nelson died Monday at his home in Dwight. He was in failing health for many months. Interment was in Christus Gardens Fairview Memorial Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Mr. Nelson was born Jan. 19, 1898 to Annie and Peter Nelson of Sundahl Minn. After enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1916, he served in World War I in France and Germany and was severely wounded in action. After being discharged in 1919, he lived in Spokane, Wash., and on Jul 5 1934 he was married to Susanna Friday at Wahpeton. They lived in Dwight and he was employed by the Dwight Seed and Grain Company until he retired in 1959.
He was a member of the Wahpeton VFW Post 4324.
Organist was Mrs. James Horton and vocalist was Steve Wateland.
Presentation of the flag was made by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4324.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs Benj (Evelyn) Grundy, Chelan, Wash.; Mrs. Floyd (Lois) Muehler, Hankinson; Mrs. John (Gladys) Vanderwerff, Savage, Minn.; Betty Nelson, Dwight; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Sophie) Freitag; Mrs. William (Mabel) Sutton, St Louis; four half sisters in Washington and 15 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tony Smith, Herman Fruetal, Selmer Ness, Stanley Beach, Jr., George Swanstrom, and Olaf Myers.
Vertin’s Wahpeton was in charge of arrangement.
