Obituary

Roy Nielsen Dies Tuesday; Funeral Services Pending

Roy Nielsen, prominent Wahpeton businessman, died Tuesday night after being hospitalized since April 14. Mr. Nielsen operated Nielsen Electric for 20 years prior to his retirement in January 1968.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Friday in Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with the Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be at Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 Thursday evening.

Mr. Nielsen was born Nov. 2, 1902 at Erwin, S.D., the son of Martin and Karen Nielsen. In his early childhood, the family moved to Mercer, N.D., where they homesteaded. He attended school and was confirmed there. At the age of 18, he became a rural mail carrier and retired from the service after 30 years at which time he purchased the business which he operated as Nielsen Electric in Wahpeton. He married Elva Mary Urban t Jamestown Aug. 8, 1929. The couple resided at Mercer until coming to Wahpeton. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter and two sons, Mrs. D. L (Gloria) Ellefson of Littleton, Colo., Dr. Roy Nielsen, Jr of Worthington, Minn., and Urban Nielsen of Fairfax, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; one sister and two brothers, Miss Jennie Nielsen of San Jose, Calif., Harry of Menlo Park, Calif., and Andrew of Palo Alto, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters and one brother.
