Obituary
Hans Nygaard
Funeral services for Hans Theodore Nygaard, 97, of Leach Home in Wahpeton will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marvin Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview.
Mr. Nygaard died Wednesday morning at St. Francis Hospital.
Vocalist is Mrs. Alvin Hans and organist is Mrs. Vernon Hektner.
Casket bearers are Mel Sherva, Alfred Anderson, Clarence Hooge, Don Jacobson, Ben Gorder and Henry Steffens.
Visitation is Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning until 11 at Vertin's Wahpeton.
Mr. Nygaard was born Oct. 13, 1876, at Norway to Johan and Ameala Nygaard. He grew up, was confirmed, and worked on a farm in Norway. In 1909 he moved to Iowa, then to Duluth, then to Northwood, N.D.
He married Amanda Gulbranson Feb. 19, 1913, at Northwood. He worked for Great Northern railroad. In 1915 he moved to Wahpeton and worked as section operator, later as signal tower operator for the railroad. He retired from the railroad and later worked for Wahpeton parm board. The past three years he lived at Leach Home.
Survivors are his wife Amanda and a son Harvey, both of Wahpeton. He was preceded by a sister and brother.
