Theo. Odegaard Dies On Friday At Minneapolis
Funeral Services Will Be Held at Two O’clock Tuesday Afternoon In Wahpeton
Operated Home Hotel Here Past Eleven Years
Heart Condition Causes Passing of Prominent Local Businessman and Citizen Theodore Odegaard, owner and operator of the Home Hotel & Café in Wahpeton the past eleven years passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis at 9:10 o’clock Friday evening. Death was due to a heart condition. Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the Odd Fellow hall.
The last rites will be conducted by Rev. Garret Hughes, Bismarck, personal friend of Mr. Odegaard and old time friend of the family. Burial will be made in Fairview cemetery.
Son of Nels and Annie Odegaard, Theodore Odegaard was born Fe. 13, 1880 in Perley, Minn., on the farm homesteaded by his father in pioneer days. He lived on the farm until he was nineteen years of age receiving his early education in a rural school nearby. He later attended Concordia College and was a graduate with the class of 1901.
Completing his college course he entered into the mercantile business in Perley, and on the date of Dec. 19th, 1906, his marriage to Miss Edna Fuller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Fuller took place at Perley. Mr. and Mrs. Odegaard made Perley their home for five years and then went to Gwinner, where Mr. Odegaard employed himself in the grain buying business for thirteen years. From there they went to Northwood where he continued in the same business, residing there one year. Coming to Wahpeton eleven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Odegaard purchased the Home Hotel & Cafe from John Gavin which he has successfully operated. Mr. Odegaard lived a reserved life and devoted practically all of his time to the operation of his business. He was held in high esteem by his business associates and by a large circle of friends.
The news of Mr. Odegaard’s death came as a shock to members of his family and friends. He had been ill since March 17th. He was an inmate of a Fergus Falls Hospital for some time and later went to Minneapolis where he submitted to surgical treatment two weeks ago and continued to improve. On the day of his death he was apparently feeling much better than he had felt for some time and was conversing with his physician when he suddenly passed away. In his passing Wahpeton has lost an honest and upright citizen.
Left to mourn the loss of a husband, son and brother are his wife, Mrs. Odegaard, his mother, Mrs. Nels Odegaard of Perley, his sisters, Mrs. Martin Larson and Miss Mary Odegaard of Perley and Mrs. Arthur Johnson of St. Paul; his brother, Jens at Georgetown. John who lives near Wahpeton, and Nelius of Minneapolis.
Pallbearers selected are George Fischer, Gilbert Reeder Gordon Bjornson, Walter Divet, Martin Peterson and Henry Rustad.
