Wesley Oliver Dies Suddenly At Rochester

George Wesley Oliver, 57, well known Wahpeton merchant died suddenly Monday at a Rochester, Minn., hotel where he had gone to receive medical attention.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Meier from the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Thursday pending the arrival of a son Leon, from Alaska.

Besides his wife, Mr. Oliver is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Oliver, two sisters, Mrs. Howard Paul, Wahpeton and Mrs. E. A. Severeid of Alsen, N.D., a twin brother, Frank of this city and three sons Leon, who resides in Alaska. Robert and Earl, both of Wahpeton.

A complete obituary will be published in the next issue of the Farmer-Globe. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Vertins of Wahpeton.

George Wesley Oliver was born on November 17, 1891, in Sioux City, Iowa, and came to Wahpeton with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Oliver, in 1896, where he spent the rest of his life. He was in the grocery business most of that time until 1945 when his sons returned from service and took over the business.

His father preceded him in death in 1925 and his first wife, Josephine Jacobson, passed away in 1930 leaving three sons, Leon, Earl and Robert.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, Edith Ness Work whom he married on Sept. 7, 1942, his sons Leon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Earl and Robert of Wahpeton, his mother, Mrs. Frances Oliver, his twin brother Frank, and sister Josie, Mrs. Howard Paul, all of Wahpeton, and sister, Helen, Mrs. Ed Severoid of Alsen, N.D. There are five grandchildren and two step daughters, Mary Work of Corpus Christi, Tex., and Mrs. Norma LaVanell of Los Angeles.
