Obituary
Maurice Olson
The funeral for Maurice E. Olson, Wahpeton, was Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Olson died Friday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge.
Soloist at the service was Mrs. Lee Soehren, Mrs. Vernon Hektner was organist.
Casket bearers were Mark and Duane Litton, Michael Solien, Roy and Clark Dohman, and Urban Leone.
Mr. Olson was born March 11, 1886 in Dwight Township to Olaus and Christian Mathieson Olson. He was educated at local schools.
In 1902 he married Julia Wick. Following their marriage, they moved to Fort Benson, Mont. where they homesteaded. In 1920 they returned to Wahpeton where they worked at the Indian school. They also farmed for a time near Underwood.
His wife died in 1927, after which he returned to ranching in Montana.
He married Beulah Power June 2, 1941 at Breckenridge. They operated the Grain Castle Cafe for a time. Mr. Olson was desk clerk at the Wahpeton Hotel until his retirement in the mid 1950's.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah; one son, O.K. (Tex), Wahpeton; two step-daughters, Mrs. William (Lois) Surdel, Moorhead; Mrs. Carlton (Grace) Fritz, Minneapolis; one brother, Fred, Great Falls, Mont.; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Melberg, Breckenridge; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1927; parents; five brothers and three sisters.
