Olaus Olson Dies Saturday
Funeral for Pioneer To Be On Tuesday
Olaus E. Olson, well known pioneer Richland county man, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Bezenek, Saturday morning. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 from Bethel Lutheran church. Rev. P. A. Gisvold will officiate.
Mr. Olson was born in Alton, Norway, Oct. 26, 1852. He was the son of Engebright and Mary Olson who came to America with their family in 1866. They settled in Houghton county, Mich. Here the family lived for three years, then moved to Macon county, Mo. They moved back to Michigan in 1871. These trips were made by covered wagon.
Mr. Olson was married to Miss Christina Mathieson on Feb. 28, 1874. Together they came to Dakota Territory in 1879 and settled in Dwight township, Richland county. Here they built their home and improved a farm on which they resided until 1916 when they moved to Wahpeton.
Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Olson, seen of whom are left to mourn his death: Mrs. Emma Holm, Mrs. Pearl Bezenek, Marion and Maurice of Wahpeton, Fred of Great Falls, Mont., Elmer of Glacier Park, Mont., and Barney of Mooreton.
Mrs. Olson preceded Mr. Olson in death as did Elmer E., Johanna, John and Edward.
Nineteen grandchild and nineteen great grandchildren survive Mr. Olson.
Pallbearers will be John Halverson, John P. Dietz, H. H. Rustad, John Mathieson, Peter Shermeister and Olaf Tew. The body will lie in state at Schmitt & Olson chapel here being taken to the home at 1:30 Tuesday.
