Obituary
Christine Olson-1920
MRS. OLAUS OLSON
Mrs. Olaus Olson passed away at the family home at the north end of Second street Sunday morning, after suffering for months from cancer of the stomach and liver. In February Mrs. Olson underwent an operation but before it was performed there was little hope of its being of benefit.
Mrs. Olson was born in Norway sixty-three years ago last winter. She came to America at the age of fifteen, and later at Calumet, Mich., she was married to Olaus Olson. Mr. and Mrs. Olson came to Richland county in June, 1879, and took up a homestead on section 9, Dwight township – the family home until four years ago when they moved to Wahpeton.
Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom are living. They are J. P. Olson, deputy county treasurer, of Wahpeton; Mrs. Carl Holm, now residing on the homestead at Dwight; Edward O. Olson of Mooreton; Maurice Olson of Underwood, Minn.; Miss Marian, residing with her father; Fred and Elmer Olson of Fort Benton, Mont.; Barney Olson and Miss Pearl, residing at home. All were present at the funeral except Elmer, who had visited for some time here and left for his home some four days ago. He could not be reached, being some where enroute to Fort Benton.
Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1 p. m., yesterday, and at the Norwegian Lutheran church at 2 p. m., by Rev. W. B. Dahl. The remains were carried to the final resting place at Fairview cemetery by six old neighbors and friends – Messrs. H. C. N. Myhra, John Myhra, Ed. Erickson, Ole P. Sletten, Martin Mathiason and John Matheison. During the service special music was rendered by a trio composed of P. C. Olson, Miss Alma Simonsen and Mrs. J. P. Olson.
One by one the old-timers are passing. Mrs. Olson was a pioneer in the county – a resident for forty-one years.
