Obituary
Steve Pappas Dies Monday
Steve C. Pappas, 77, long time Wahpeton businessman, died Monday at the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident since 1961. Funeral services will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Wahpeton at a time to be set. Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pappas was born March 18, 1893, in Kaminitsa, Greece, the son of Constantine and Maria (Coufagianis) Pappas. He came to the United States in 1907 with his father and cousin, Frank Pappas, and went to Denver, Colo. He later was employed in Aberdeen, S.D. In 1914, Mr. Pappas and his cousin, Frank Pappas, came to Wahpeton where they operated the Olympia Candy Kitchen until 1929 when they founded the Del Rio. In 1961, he retired and the business was sold. He returned to Greece in 1936 and visited relatives.
While in Wahpeton, Mr. Pappas was an avid sports fan in both high school and college events in the area.
Mr. Pappas was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
He is survived by one brother and two sisters, John Pappas, Mrs. Panagiota Pairaktaris and Mrs. Elenie Tremperia, all in Greece; his cousin, Frank Pappas, of Wahpeton; a niece, Mrs. Anthony (Maria) Bullis of Fargo, a niece in California and seven nieces and nephews in Munster, Ind.
