Services Tuesday for Paul Paramithas Killed in Car Crash

Prominent Wahpeton Restaurant Man Dies in Automobile Accident in Breckenridge Paul Paramithas, Wahpeton hotel and restaurant man died at Breckenridge hospital at 11:35 Thursday night following an automobile accident the same evening. Paramithas was alone in the car at the time he was fatally hurt.

His car careened off two automobiles before striking the side of a car driven by Lyle Sletten, 17, Wahpeton. Paramithas had been in ill health for some time and this may have contributed to the accident. As Paramithas had died no complete investigation could be held. Sletten, as well as the other drivers, are completely blameless. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Episcopal church here with Rev. Vuvunas of Minot officiating assisted by Rev. Walton. Reverend Vuvuas is of the Greek Orthodox church of which Mr. Parmithas was a member.

Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Military rites will be in charge of the American Legion.

The spectacular accident occurred shortly after 8 Thursday evening. Paramithas had said he was going to Fergus Falls that afternoon for an outboard motor that was being repaired in that city. Upon his return, he was to have had a dinner party at his restaurant. He never returned. He left Wahpeton at about two p.m. The outboard motor was found in the wrecked car.

At the corner of First street and Minnesota avenue in Breckenridge, Paramithas’ Chevrolet struck a parked car, backed away from this car to strike a second car. His car, apparently, out of control, circled down Minnesota Avenue. Coming in a wide circle the Paramithas car struck the Sletten car. Paramithas fell from his car. He hung suspended head down from the car for a few minutes until a doctor arrived when he was taken to the hospital. He never regained consciousness. Inga Johnson, partner with Mr. Paramithas in the restaurant and hotel here, will reopen the place of business on Wednesday morning and will continue with the business. She has been in business with Mr. Paramithas for several years.

Born in Shutino in Greece June 29, 1889, Paul Paramithas came to the United States in 1910. He first settled at Eau Claire, Wis., coming to Breckenridge in 1921. He was a veteran of World War I, belong to both the Wahpeton and Breckenridge Legion posts and to the Society of Forty and Eight. He came to Wahpeton in 1930 and has resided here ever since. He is survived by a son and a brother, both of whom live in Greece, or were living when last heard from some five years ago. Since the war, he has been unable to get in touch with his son, who was last known to be in the Greek army.

Mr. Paramithas was a member of the Greek Orthodox church in Minneapolis. His father was a choirmaster in Greece. Mr Paramithas was a member of the Knights of AHEPA, a Greek organization.
