Obituary
Cussie Patterson-1919
MRS. JOS. PATTERSON
The community was shocked Sunday to learn of the death of Mrs. Jos. Patterson at the family residence on north Sixth street. Mrs. Patterson had been ill for some time, but it was thought that she was on the road to recovery.
With Mr. Patterson and Mary, their youngest daughter, she spent the past winter in Southern California. While there she was very ill, but had recovered sufficiently so that she was able to return to Wahpeton a few weeks ago. Mrs. Patterson had been confined to the house since returning, and much of the time in bed. Last week, however, she was able to be up and in a chair a couple of days. Friday a relapse set in and Saturday her life was despaired of. About midnight Saturday the end came.
Mrs. Cussie Patterson was born fifty-two years ago in Danville, Ill. When she had grown to womanhood, she moved to North Dakota. and in 1893 she was married to Mr. Patterson at Devils Lake. Late in the fall of that same year the Pattersons came to Wahpeton, where they have made their home ever since. Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband and five children – Ellwood, who was recently discharged from the army and with his wife and baby live in Wahpeton; Marguerette and Grace who are attending the University of Wisconsin; and Clara and Mary who live at home. Marguerette and Grace did not get here until Sunday morning just a few hours after their mother had passed out.
Mrs. Patterson was well known thruout the community and the state for she was identified with many activities and social work. She was a loyal member of the Christian Science Society of this city. Mrs. Patterson will be missed greatly by all who knew her. The entire community extends sincerest sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral was held yesterday t the family residence of north Sixth street. The Christian Science service was used, Miss Bertha Bauer, the first reader of the Society, conducting the service.
