Rites Saturday for W. H. Paulson In Wahpeton
Farmer-Globe Employee Dies At Local Hospital
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon for Walter H. Paulson, veteran Farmer-Globe employee, who died Thursday at St. Francis hospital after a two months’ illness.
Mr. Paulson had been employed by the Farmer-Globe 18 years and was stricken suddenly while about his duties early in May. He was taken to the hospital where it was found that he was suffering from a serious heart condition. He had been under oxygen the past month. With him at the time of his passing were his brothers, Gust and Will Paulson, and a party of Wahpeton Masons who had aided in caring for him during his illness.
Masonic rites were conducted at Vertin Chapel by Rev. C. H. Meier, chaplain of Wahpeton Masonic lodge of which Mr. Paulson was Master.
Born at Keystone, Iowa, Dec. 6, 1886, Walter Paulson was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Paulson, now of Pipestone, Minn. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and did graduate work at the University of North Dakota.
He took up teaching as a career and had schools in Palo, Minn., and other Minnesota points, in Minot, and Minto, N.D., and in Richland county schools his last teaching position being in Fairmount, where he was principal.
He served in World War I and was a member of the local American Legion post. In addition to being Master of Wahpeton Masonic lodge, Mr. Paulson was Principal Sojourner in the Royal Arch Masons and a member of the Knights Templar.
At the funeral services an honorary escort of Legion men acted and pallbearers were men from among the Farmer-Globe employees with whom the deceased had worked: They were Clarence Gilgenbach, Alfred Karst, Clifford Johnson, Ralph Justus, Clarence Amundson and Larry Barrows.
In addition to his parents he leaves three brothers, John H. Paulson and Will Paulson of Pipestone, and Gust Paulson of Springfield, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. John F. Anderson of Pipestone.
Interment was in Fairview cemetery for the local man who had spent a quarter century in this county.
