Obituary
J.E. Powrie Dies Monday In This City
Funeral services were held this afternoon from First Congregational church for John E. Powrie, 90, who died Monday at his home in this city. Rev. Frank Hirons officiated at the last rites. Schmitt-Poulton Funeral home was in charge.
John E. Powrie was born Sept. 24, 1866 at Walnut Grove, Scotland and came to the United States with his parents at the age of six. They settled at LaCrosse, Wis., and he received part of his grade school education there. When he was 13 his parents came to Wahpeton. After finishing school here, he worked with his father who was a carpenter.
He married Lucy Leshovsky, Dec. 25, 1895 in Summit township. They moved to Wahpeton, and have lived here since.
Mr. Powrie was a member of the Congregational church., a charter member of the local fire department. He was chief of police in Wahpeton for eight years and served as police magistrate for twenty years.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. William Schoeneck, (Cecile), of this city and Mrs. M. L Beeson (Beatrice) of Grand Forks; one niece and two grandchildren.
